OKLAHOMA CITY - Online scams are everywhere, and people are falling for them.
Do your homework, before you click 'Like.'
You might be helping a scammer cash in and not even know it.
Many of the posts entice you with something free, like an iPhone or airline tickets.
It's called "Like farming.”
Someone creates a bogus Facebook page and gets you to Like and Share their page and posts.
Once they reach a certain amount of Likes, they turn around and sell the page to marketers or scammers, who then bombard you with ads and offers and, in some cases, malicious software to gain access to your personal information.
We say it all of the time: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
The In Your Corner bottom line:
- Liking or sharing random posts or pages is a bad idea.
- Avoid free trial offers and foreign lotteries.
