MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - Chuck Henson's prostate cancer is back and the medical bills are piling up.
He and his wife, Pat, are pinching pennies and could use any extra cash to pay for treatment.
However, the couple was recently scammed out of a lot of money by an alleged con artist with a thick New York accent.
Henson says the man convinced them to wire him hundreds of dollars.
"I had a pretty good idea [it was a scam,]" Chuck said.
But he wired the money anyway since Pat regularly enters the Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes.
Chuck says he even watches 'In Your Corner' scam alerts on KFOR and knew better.
"I thought me and my kids and grandkids would be set for life," he said.
The bottom line is that while you will pay income taxes on lottery winnings, a real lottery will deduct the taxes from your winnings. Also, the real prize patrol will never call winners by phone or ask for money.
